Resin and marble used to create 'suspended collection'
Moreno Ratti is an Italian architect and designer, who has been working with marble since 2013. Besides concrete, marble seems to be the”it” material of our times that is used extensively both in architecture and for product design applications leading to furniture and everyday functional objects. Noble, beautiful, and heavy, it instantly adds a sense of aristocratic, cool character to any interior. Ratti hence started to experiment with different applications of the material, presenting it in a variety of settings and a range of usages.
His latest venture is a product line created for Marmo Trilogy, a manufacturer specialised in marble design objects. The “suspended collection” presents an exciting visual effect while it draws on the marble manufacturing process as well. A bowl, a vase, and a vessel made of high quality carrara marble were encapsulated in thick resin blocks, recalling the method of covering marble with the elastic material in industrial settings. This step helps stress resistance during the process of cutting huge marble pieces into smaller slabs. With his collection, Ratti extended this resin skin and used a thicker case that encompasses finely crafted, functional marble items. Due to the transparent nature of resin the objects give the impression of suspension, making the line an outstanding addition to any interior.
