Customisable Layer chair withstands passing trends
In our consuming-driven society, things that last more than a few years are rare. Trends come and go with each season, and even if not consciously, we are all exposed to the dictatorship of fashions. That coupled with the inevitable evolvement of one’s personal taste coming with aging, and a more practical consideration originating from the frequent moving from apartment to apartment, a culture of throw-away furniture has developed. Fighting against temporary solutions, Korean graphic and industrial designer Sohyun Yun created a customisable chair that also celebrates individuality and sustainability.
During her quest to come up with something that people won’t get tired of, she realised the Layer chair, a seating option made entirely of transparent acrylic. Both the back and the seat feature a void, capable of accommodating up to 3 different layers made of either coloured or printed acrylic, or even wood or any other material that comes to the owner’s mind. The chair comes with a limited number of prints according to the customer’s choice, making each piece exclusive and original. Beloved artworks, photographs, favourite textures and colours make the Layer chair personal and easily adaptable to changing fashions, seasons, tastes, and interiors.
