We have seen quite a few excellent examples of collaborations between fashion and contemporary art, but it is always refreshing to see young talents to take a venture to the field. Budapest-based
pakk_art has been around for a year now, growing into a steady and trusted source for quirky yet high quality contemporary artworks. Offering mostly pictorial art at a bargain price, their mission is to reconnect young artists with the audience by making art available for all.
Operating on a pop-up basis, they hope to inspire people to decorate their homes with authentic artworks instead of the impersonal, mass-produced offerings of poster-halls. Their long-term collaboration with fresh graduates and current art-school students does not rely exclusively on economical grounds (i.e. to keep prices friendly);
pakk_art also works as a platform offering artists a chance to reach a wider audience, and possibly to make their break-through.
As a Christmas surprise for their old and new customers, this year the curators decided to take a step away from art hanging on the wall, and coordinated a very special collaboration between two of their artists and, a recently-launched fashion brand. Luckily for them,
Kata Jánosi and
Tünde Szász did not have to break away from their beloved paint and canvas, as they were given free hand to put down their artistic visions to a shared huge screen. Then came
SOFF-founder Szofi Boncsér, who cut the material soaked with abstract forms and bursting colours, and reshaped the pieces to form a line of exquisite backpacks.
Needless to say, no two are alike in the collection of 20 pieces, each handmade and available with or without leather straps. The project is absolutely outstanding on the Hungarian scene regarding not only the idea, but the execution as well, making the bags the perfect Christmas present for any daring art-lover. In case you see your loved one, or yourself carrying contemporary art around all the time, that is functional as a bonus, hop in
Defo labor to grab a bag at the
pakk_art Christmas Art Market.
