Philipp Mainzer designs Aesop store with local traditions in mind
The Australian cosmetics brand is known for its natural approach that is paired with luxuriously minimal and straightforward identity. This simple, organic drive is reflected in Mainzer’s interior: it operates with a muted colour-scheme of greens and greys. The overall cold impression is softened by the natural walnut, raw brass, and mohair and leather materials of the furniture and accessories.
Back-lit forest-green shelves are set up against paler greyish walls, providing a serene backdrop for the cosmetics. The central design element of the space is the monolithic solid walnut cabinet in the middle, featuring a brass basin which makes testing the products on spot possible. The floor matches the mild ambiance of the shop, while it also takes a reference to local craft heritage. The sand-grey, salt glazed matte tiles are reminiscent of the stoneware typical of the region. The interior is finished off with furniture by German brand e15, all matching the simple luxury of the custom-made design elements.
