Antwerp boutique Step by Step revamped by Dialect
Antwerp’s Step by Step boutique has recently been redesigned by local studio Dialect. Situated in a neighbourhood filled with clothing and furniture stores, the space had to be rethought so that it would let the designer collections take centre stage. For that effect, Dialect used a series of well-thought-out yet effortless-looking colour coding and material system that changes from zone to zone. Light colours paired with raw and natural materials shape the design concept.
The first area, the entrance zone works as a display, with raised windows allowing for concealed storage space underneath. As an unexpected and playful touch, a glass cabinet on the side features tons of barbies and other action figurines as decorative objects. The rest of the interior goes strictly against plastic cheesiness and superficiality: garments are stored in either black wooden closets or on clothing racks made from varnished raw steel. The natural materials allow focus on clothing, the only striking element being the midnight blue-painted ceiling that is not particularly in sight.
The second area is more about relaxation and is convenient for a chat or even a coffee. The rough concrete floor got light pink colouring that extends to the walls. Stained black cupboards are replaced with warm oak furniture. The sales counter located here is also made from oak and steel, and features a light blue tabletop to reinforce the pastel ambiance. The whole feel of this section is homely and cosy, inviting customers to take a rest.
The brightness of the whole space is due mostly to the inner patio: this also works as a divider between the changing rooms and the rest of the shop. This area is characterised by the combination of white and concrete, providing a neutral background for trying on the stunning designer clothes.
