Totte is a functional tableware line by Nendo featuring handles
If you ever tried to balance with a bowl of hot soup in your hands then you probably know that the route between the counter and the dining table can be a real struggle. Nendo, know for their minimal yet extremely functional design solutions, came up with the simplest and therefore most brilliant quick fix for such situations; they released a collection of plates and bowls that feature handles. The Totte line (named after the Japanese term for handle) gives a new, practical value to our most commonplace tableware objects, making them easier to carry and store.
For pots and frying pans it is natural to feature handles for obvious reasons: they make moving hot contents smoother, allow for no-fuss storage when hanged on hooks, and just make cooking generally a safer experience. Regarding we face their advantages on a daily basis, it is incomprehensible why we did not translate this solution to tableware.
But fear no more, here comes Nendo, whose Totte line includes plates and bowls in 3 sizes and 5 colours, all with the studio’s signature minimal design that makes the set adaptable to any household. Unfortunately, the line is so far available only in Japan, sold exclusively at Sogo-Seibu, but hopefully handles will make an appearance on the bowls in other corners of the globe as well.
