Tasteful and modern Japanese design brough to London by Sfera
Design Studio , Japanese , Pet
Japanese design studio Sfera is about to make its London debut, turning the initial aims of attracting an international audience into reality. Founded in Kyoto in 2001 by Shigeo Mashiro, the brand made appearance on the old continent with a base in Milan, and the UK-expansion is a clear signal that Japanese-rooted, tasteful design has a safe place in the European market. And there is no reason to wonder about that, regarding the extraordinary quality and charmingly nostalgic design the Sfera line demonstrates.
Products are divided into the three broad categories of tableware, furniture, and ceramics, all characterised by exquisite craftsmanship, traditional techniques, and contemporary forms - a combination that makes the objects look strangely familiar and surprisingly fresh at the same time.
Besides rooted deep in Japanese craft traditions, the pieces were fitted to a modern and international taste and lifestyle. Along the candle holders, bamboo baskets, and glazed pottery, a set of pet accessories are also present, inspired by Mashiro disappointment with products available on the market after becomng a master to his dog.
A subtly fun character is carried throughout the Sfera collection, that, matched with the high quality, pure materials (wood, metal, stone, and natural fiber) used, ensure that we are dealing with design that was made to last.
