Mopsy is a dynamic coffee table by Marcus Johansson
Swedish designer Markus Johansson debuts his latest coffee table at Stockholm Furniture Fair. The Mopsy line is based on the idea of contrasts, that is most apparently present in shapes and colours. The table features a circular and a rectangular tabletop, that can be custom-ordered in colour combinations of black, pale blue, dark blue, and pink. Johansson aimed for creating a visually dynamic coffee table, that is still void of any unnecessary details and is built up from the most basic shapes possible.
A coffee table is normally a static, stable, and central part of any living room, and the designer intended to break this stability in a modest way. After experimenting with different layouts, the final collection includes two shapes with overlapping tabletops. The interplay of the most basic geometric shapes led to a an object that carries the notion of movement and harmony at the same time. The “Mopsy-s” are striking already on their own, but their dynamism can be multiplied by pairing several pieces together into various arrangements. The tables are available in two sizes, with various finishes, and the aforementioned 4 colours, allowing for customers to find the best option that fits their needs.
