Lorenzo Cereda releases his first furniture collection
Lorenzo Cereda is an Italian-born, but now London-based interior designer. He familiarised himself with craft techniques at an early age, learning the basics of the ironwork trade at his uncle’s studio. Later on, he studied interior design at the University of Milan, and pursued a successful career on the field in London. It was somehow inevitable still that his chosen profession and old passion should meet in the shape of a creative venture, and now Cereda is celebrating the release of his first furniture collection.
Inspiration from his ironworker roots were fused with experiences learned from interior design, leading to an absolutely functional yet surprisingly fresh-looking set of mobilia. The collection features a coffee table, a floor lamp, a chair, and a chest of drawers, presenting an outburst of colour, shapes, and patterns. Each piece was made by hand, relying on traditional craft techniques, executed in Italian workshops, and utilising high quality materials like carrara marble, hand polished metal, and solid wood.
While relying greatly on heritage methods, the fun, geometric form-language recalls the visuals of early 90s comics, offering a refreshing pop-universe in midst of the toned-down, minimal offerings of today’s furniture market. Cereda is not afraid to stand out, and while his limited edition collection is a real statement as a whole, the characteristic pieces work well on their own as well.
