Alfredo Häberli created folded collection for deSede
Alfredo Häberli’s Argentinien-Swiss origin is very much traceable in his works: the careless joy and playfulness of Latin temperament go hand in hand with precision and the quest for the highest quality. Throughout his colourful career, he has been working with the biggest brands from Vitra through Moroso to BMW, all collaborations exhibiting his curious and creative nature. Häberli self-confessedly enjoys the little things in life and takes inspiration from unexpected places; for his latest design, the trigger was a small leather elephant found at a flea market. Ha managed to translate the fun little object into a life-size furniture collection with the help of deSede. The Swiss manufacturer is specialised in leather furnishings for home and work environments. Their statement pieces do not only provide the highest comfort, but work as sculptural objects as well.
Häberli’s elephant manifested itself in the deSede ds 373 seating line, which recalls the found object’s folded design a minimal yet strong 3D shape. In order to let the material accentuate the form, Häberli used a thick, yet supple kind of bullhide for upholstering the seating. The 5 mm thick leather was tanned by using plant extracts, meaning that the pieces will change a lot through the years, while it also highlights the material’s natural qualities. The spectacular ds 373 collection will make its debut at IMM Cologne between 18 and 24 January at deSede’s stand.
